I learned to play when I was young. There was little to do at the cottage if the weather wasn’t warm enough to swim. My mom was content to sit and read her magazines, smoke a few, nothing. I wasn’t. So I learned to play cards. I played a lot. I won, I lost, I cheated. I kept playing.

Years went by and I stopped playing. I played on my computer when I first got it. Who didn’t? The computers were slow and there were other things to do, the novelty wore off.

When Gail got sick, I got him a couple of pocket games to use in the hospital. One was 5 card stud and the other was solitaire. Gail went in for surgery and I brought several books and the game to keep me busy while I waited. I never opened a book. I got hooked on solitaire that I never gave it to Gail. I’m not sure why I gave it up. Did I give it someone or finally declare enough?

More years pass and now my dad plays on his computer. A lot. Ryan looked interested in playing and dad taught him how. I thought he might enjoy solitaire on his DS and got him a game for Christmas. He didn’t touch it so I tried. It was OK but I was having more fun on Mario Kart. Then I got Tetris and was hooked on that. But once I beat Tetris, I decided to try Solitaire again. I can’t stop.

I have to tell myself on 5 games then do something productive. That sometimes works. I have to put it out of my reach so I won’t play it when I am supposed to be working.

BTW, I play Klondike. The average for winning is 20%. I am at 53%.

Last week I finally watched Madge and her live stream. It was entertaining but I hated being glue to my computer. I have to use the headphones with Hank being around. I figured I would get some wireless headphones so I could do other things whilst listening. (I like the word whilst, sounds better doesn’t it?) My first mistake was going to Circuit City. My second mistake was listening to salesperson. I ended up with some headphones that weren’t compatible. So I did my homework (not well enough) and went back to CC to exchange them.
They still won’t work. There is a dongle but I think I broke when I tried to remove the stupid adapter with the iPod. Such vague directions that I didn’t realize that the little bump was actually an on/off switch. Anyway, they are going back and screw the damn stream, I listen to her on my iPod. On my own time.

I wrote about the sonic boom we hear on Tuesday. I finally remembered to check it out. Turns out it was the space shuttle flying over Tampa Bay. I never realized that the sonic booms comes about 5 minutes after the space shuttle leaves the area. cool.
