Snap, Crackle, Pop!

Not the sound of milk on my rice crispies but the sound of the grass dying. It’s dry. And hot.

Now it’s May and the weather takes a turn for the hotter. 90s. And very little rain. Each day I get the weather forecast in my mail. And each day is just a slight variation from the last. 90s for the high, sunny or partly cloudy. Then you will see rain forecasted around day 5 or 6. But as day 5 or 6 approached, the forecast is changed and that day is not sunny and the rain is pushed back. My theory is that there is never rain forecasted but the weatherman stick this in to help us maintain our sanity. After all, if we wanted to live in a dessert, we would move to Arizona.

So many people think of Florida as always wet and humid. It’s not. We average about 2-3 inches for the month of May. Certainly not enough to save this poor parched grass. On top of it all, my sprinklers don’t work. I blame my neighbor. He let his slow leak grow until the erosion set it and compromised my connection as well. He has called for service but they won’t arrive until May 15. I hope my grass can hold put until then.

Maybe I should try a rain dance?
