08.20.08 growing up, sort of

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Ryan is growing up. You can tell by how he handled the bus being 40 minutes late on Monday & today. He held it together on the bus but once we got inside, he broke down. On Monday, it took us about 20 minutes to calm down, today was only a few minutes and he was fine. I hope this progress continues. I also hope the bus driver can get her act together and not be so dang late!

But then Ryan can be really silly. Especially when I want to take his photo. We played hide and seek today. Basically, he kept trying to hide and I kept snapping away hoping to catch a good photo.

It made the wait for the bus go by faster but after 20 minutes, Ryan wanted me to drive him to school. Andy would prefer to wait for the bus but since he whining is not as loud as Ryan’s, he lost out and I drove them.

Apparently the DS can’t count very high. Only to 4095. At least that is as many games as it will count Solitaire Klondike. Maybe I should switch to another game? Or just reset it.

I chose to reset it. Before, I was up to 4095 games, 53% win record. Now I am at 8 games, 75% win record. Ha!

Did I mentioned what my dad thinks of solitaire? Well, if I did you can skip this. If I didn’t, read on.

My dad thinks that Solitaire is a metaphor for life. You have to play the cards you are dealt. Ad you flip through the pile, you take your time and make you decisions. If it happens to be the right decision, good for you. If it is not, you do the best you can. Sure you can correct a mistake now and then but you have to be fast before it’s too late.

He doesn’t play the way I do. With my game, I can “undo” all the way to the beginning and make it work until I win. Now I don’t abuse that too much. If I have to go back more than 10 moves, it just seems like a waste. It is, after all, just a game.

I am off to take Andy to the dentist. I wish I had some xanax for both of us.
