05.01.08 part 2, the dentist

Actually it went pretty good. Goodness it’s expensive! $125 for cleaning and check up.

Andy has a small cavity in one of his baby teeth. It should fall out soon so they are not doing anything for it.

Andy did well and let them brush his teeth. I hate when they ask if I am brushing their teeth. Like I have time? Good golly! I happy to get my own done. When we were little, we only had to brush once, before bed. We had to brush before we kissed my mom good night. A minty kiss meant we had done our job. And I had never heard of flossing until much older. I later learned that my mom was not so good with her oral hygiene. We had the same dentist and he used to say that he wished I would teach my mom how to brush her teeth. Ha!

Once we were done with the dentist, Andy earned a trip to the toy store. I asked if he wanted a new bike (the shop is next door) but he wanted a toy. And he picked out a fairly cheap one at that. He wanted the Melissa & Doug Band in a Box.

We did go look at bikes. I think we are looking at a bmx style bike. I don’t want gears because I know Andy will mess with them and screw them up. Single speed. Amazing how hard they are to find and how much they cost.

We finished off with Chick Fil A. Andy is too tall to play but they let him knowing he is not aggressive. There was a little boy, came up to Andy’s waist, and he was ordering Andy around. He had Andy in “jail” and Andy thought it was funny.

When it says Libby’s Libby’s Libby’s on the label label label,
You will like it like it like it on your table table table…

Did the groceries today. I hate it! I hate spending so much for so little. I was getting some fruit for me. Yes, I got some fresh oranges but I wanted some peaches and mandarin oranges which are not in season. So off to the canned section. Since I had already decided that I don’t care for the Dole Mandarin Oranges, I looked for the DelMonte. They had them but they were more expensive. Publix has their own brand and I took a chance. Interesting that their price was the same as Dole’s. Suffice it to say, I don’t care for the Publix Mandarin Oranges. I got some Peaches too so we will see. Not worth saving some pennies for something you don’t like.

Then I started thinking about what kind/brand we used to buy in Michigan. The Mandarin Oranges came in smaller cans with a green label. I don’t remember the brand but I didn’t see them at Publix. Then I recalled Libby’s and their annoying jingle. I think they might have been the first to can with light syrup instead of the heavy syrup we were used to. And we preferred them. I don’t recall seeing them at Publix.

I also wanted more freezer pops. I really liked those Soda Pops. I finally asked and found the sad selection Publix carries. Two varieties of Flav-o-Ice. I stopped at Walgreens and got 4 boxes of Soda Pops. They had no Root Beer but I don’t think I will miss it.

oh crap!

When did groceries get so expensive?

I guess I should say that I am spoiled when my dad comes down here. He feeds the kids most meals and does the grocery shopping. He pays for the groceries too. He said costs went up but, come on!

I went today to get some things. My cart was about 2/3 full. The final cost was $123.35! And I had forgotten my debit card so I had to pay cash. Oh did that hurt.

Besides the cost, Vera has it in my brain to avoid all high fructose corn syrup. Yeah right. So the yogurt I found that didn’t have it was 50% higher in cost. Joy. So to eat healthy is more expensive too. Life sucks.
